Re: What do people want out of relationships?

Shoot. I had originally wanted that first message to go to closet,
not coatrack. I wonder if people would be more comfortable with it
there, rather than here. On the other hand, this is a plenty
depressing topic. :-(

Things like compatible values, goals, rules, etc. are certainly good
things to look for in a relationship. But the question I'm interested
in is why be in a relationship at all? Especially if you can get
things like sex, cooking, etc. from a friendship.

The only reason I can think of is this need to feel validated, and I'm
no longer sure that's a healthy reason to want to be in a
relationship, or that by itself it's sufficient reason to hold a
relationship together.

So I ask again. Why do people want to find SO's and get into
relationships? I'm no longer sure I know why I want a girlfriend
anymore. Don't get me wrong; I still do! I just don't know why.
