It's really good to come home to someone that you can either cuddle and
snuggle in an extraordinarily mushy manner, or get into a discussion about
books with, or get into an immense argument with, and know that the person
you've come home to knows all sides of your personality, and accepts them,
and loves you. (Even when you piss them off beyond measure and do totally
stupid things.)
It's also very good to have someone to write love letters to, and to get into
silly arguments over who's turn it is to do the dishes... The security is a big reason that serious couples get into and stay in relationships, even through
rocky parts. (My SO zephyred that i only love him 'cause he can cook. :) not
so...)
Doesn't everyone derive pleasure out of doing sappy things for someone who won't
laugh at them? So even the selfish pleasures of relationships are good, 'cause
you make the partner feel wonderful, loved, and useful. If the partner is only there
because you want validation of yourself, isn't that telling the partner that
you value what they think? Mutual respect is a good place to begin to build
a relationship....
I'm babbling, please excuse me if I've offended anyone.
