There are: PCDOS, MSDOS, Forth, RTC, CP/M-86, MP/M-86, DR-DOS,
Concurrent DR-DOS, Multiuser DR DOS, RT-DOS, RT-DRDOS, Flex, OS/9,
Xenix, and "None at All", meaning you can boot an assembly
program directly from the PC without an O/S, just using BIOS
calls if you want.

Of the bunch above, some are dead, some are moribund, and some are
alive and well and thriving. In particular, all of the DRDOS
variants are alive and well. The RT-DRDOS (various subnames)
is used for control purposes where its real-time kernel is useful.
Concurrent DRDOS (or sometimes called Concurrent PCDOS) is
another Digital Research venture which works well and is alive
under several guises, the most notable being the Novell Netware
series.

CP/M 86 and MP/M 86 are earlier implementations. CP/M 86
lost out to QDOS/PCDOS/MSDOS in 1980, but MP/M 86 evolved
into Concurrent DRDOS. Using DRDOS is a pleasure compared
to using MS-DOS.

Quick quiz: how many here have used this command and what
does it do? Are you old enough to answer:

PIP a:filea.com b:fileb.com
