Personally I think CP/M 86 was a pinnacle of achievement, and if Gary
Kildall hadn't been out sailing his yacht when Big Blue came a-knocking we
would have had the foundations of a real operating system from scratch
instead of having to put up with a series of evermore elaborate kludges upon
QDOS (quick and dirty operating system [obviously the quick part got dropped
a long time ago]). Does anyone know a good genetic engineer or time-machine
salesman?
