Be careful.  I had a similar problem in upgrading 5.1 to 5.2 from an ftp
site.  Everything went well except the installation of LILO in the master
boot record.  I too could start Linux from the boot floppy.  But attempts to
rectify the situation did not work and the end result was that I could not
access the hard disk with the m.b.r. and could not undue the damage.  I
ended up having to reinstall WIN95, which is a horrible and time consuming
experience and I lost things that are difficult to replace (like bookmarks
in Netscape).
