Hi.

I believe the error you are encountering in imtest is actually due to
a server-side bug when using privacy protection with SASL GSSAPI.  To
work around it, you can either use IMAP over SSL ("imtest -s"), or
disable privacy protection ("imtest -l 0", but note that this option
results in unencrypted communication with the IMAP server).

gnus seems to have an imap-gssapi-program variable which you can
customize to supply desired arguments to imtest, but I have not tried
doing so.
