I've been asked to find out if y'all would be interested in evaluating
Applixware 4.2 for Linux. I can give a few strategic, interested, parties
a couple copies on CD (not crippled -- full version), to evaluate, in the
hopes that after you find it a quality product, IS would consider
purchasing Applixware for the Linux community at MIT, and perhaps even for
the larger Athena community.
SIPB has been considering making Applixware available to MIT. Debajit
Ghosh (djib@mit.edu) has a full copy on Linux and has been pursuing
the possibility of wider liscencing. I don't think he's gotten a
reply regarding what sort of pricing structure would be possible for a
site liscence or set of floating licences, but it could be he's just
gotten busy with classes.
If you could get this information for us, SIPB could better evaluate
the posibility. Of course, I think SIPB would have no objections if
IS wanted to provide it instead.
