To plan UMOC you have to know how many people are in your chapter, how arge of
an area you want to cover with voting tables and how many hours you want to
have these tables open. We have a table in almost each of our 17 residence
halls, at our union, and in several central spots. We run during lunch hours
and dinner hours oin the halls, and sometimes longer in the central spots. We
need to get permission from the hall governments to set up tables in these
places, and to okay it with our physical plant for the central locations. OUr
sargeant at arms helps with this, and people in the halls go to their hall
governments to petition for the tables.
The hours of UMOC should be planned around class hours, rather than traditional
hours if your campus (like mine) has class that run from (for example) 11:30 to
12:10. If people have a class then they cannot be at a booth for an 11 or 12
o`clock shift. You should not expect people to skip class for this, even if
you think it is only 10 minutes.
If you are a small chapter, or if this is your first time, it is important not
to overextend yourself. Start with a few tables. At our school you are
restricted from calling out to people walking past the booth, so wee have
people stop by, and just "chat" with them loudly about UMOC.
This is the end of part 2...
