Hi everyone, I am going to send my note about UMOC a bit chopped up so if my
family acidentally picks up the phone, all is not lost.

BEta BEta, at Michigan State U, has run UMOC for a long time, some years more
successfully than others. It is what you might describe as the biggest of all
big projects, and if you do not have the full support of the chapter, you
cannot do it well.

A quick synmopsis of what UMOC is for the chapters that don't do it: Ugly Man
on Campus is a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. It is a penny vote.
Which means that there are people nominated as the ugliest man (yes, even if
you are a woman) on campus and to vote for them costs a penny. Of course you
accept larger denominations of coins/bills, but unlike other penny votes, they
do not cancel out the votes of other contenders.

The people nominated (initially) for UMOC are usually well known people on
campus, like the university president, a football coach, a member of campus
police. Other groups can nominaste people, we set the price at $5 per
nomination, with that counting as the intial 500 votes. It is a good idea to
be in contact with other groups to see if they will set up a competition
between themselves to see who can raise the most money for their candidate.

This is the end of part 1...
