Here at Mu Chi there are certain "requirements" that pledges must meet.
These are really only recommendations, however. Each pledge is voted on
individually at final evals, and it has been known for pledges to be accepted
that have not completed all of the requirements.
If for some reason, a pledge does not get in, they have the option to
carry-over. This way they only have to complete whatever they were deficient
in for the next semester. We have no problem with anyone having to carry over.
Actually, one of our past presidents was a carry-over, and he's done more for
the chapter than I would think to be humanly possible. So having to carry-over
doesn't mark someone for their career in APhiO or anything.
We did have an interesting situation last spring, when a pledge
depledged and then decided that they wanted to continue with pledging a couple
of weeks later. It was decided by the president and pledgemaster that this
person could repledge midway through the original pledging period. It was a
decision that caused much conflict at the time, but was a first for our
chapter. At least now, we are more prepared to deal with something like that
if it happens again.
