I think a method to add structure to the mailing list would help a lot. The
Red Hat folks have said that the list volume makes fast searches expensive.
A more structured list would allow a more efficient search.
Even now they should be able to:
1. Index the subject lines
2. Allow keyword search on subject line and return each hit as a link to
the original message.
3. The links would also include the GMT date/time of the message so that
users could select later messages first to find solutions faster.
Granted this is a little limited but it looks doable. Another option is to
gateway the list to a newsgroup hosted at redhat.com. The messages would be
more easily threaded and the searches would be run on the user's machine.
