On way to check to see if some errata changed a file from the original
install is to use rpm.
Lets say you want to check tcpd. You cab type in rpm -Vf /usr/bin/tcpd.
That will tell you if the file is different from what rpm has stored in its
database. Or to check all the installed stuff, you can do an rpm -Va. For
starters, files to check for changes are ps, ls, top, tcpd, passwd, login,
rshd and syslogd.
