*** Stop. I'm afraid you're making a thinking mistake. The rpm package
will install the necessary files and libs where they belong (it will
"unpack" them) so the files will be "all" over the system but your rpm
package will still be in the directory from where you started the
instalation.
When you upgrade...well what happens you think!? The files of your old
instalation are replaced by the newer files in order to have the
functionality of your new program. If you upgrade your CPU do you keep
both of them or do you replace the old with the new one? Same thing with
an upgrade, except the new prog comes in place of the old one
automatically. Normally you don't have to replace or delete anything.
Do rpm -rebuilddb once in a while to update the info.
