The Red Hat print filter is a joke. I don't know why Red Hat insists on
doing everything from scratch. I highly recommend magicfilter, available
from sunsite. It is very easy to configure and can be set up to use any
number of filters. Do you want to print a compressed dvi file? No
problem. It has a lot of printers already configured and it is easy to
add more. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be an rpm for it.
