You can use the Red Hat boot disk to do it. Proceed through the
install (pick upgrade) and it will mount the drive for you after you
pick the root partition. You can then switch to VT2 to do what you
want.
Alternatively, you should be able to boot your system using lilo on
the floppy by typing 'linux root=/dev/hda1' (replace hda1 with the
location of your root partition). If that boots okay, you can fix up
your /etc/lilo.conf and run lilo.
