I believe your CD ROM drive may be a Goldstar model drive.  My references
list GCD-R5XXB as being made by that company.  In particular, the driver you
list on your initialization line (GCD540.sys) is listed as a Goldstar drive.
The 542 may be a later model.  Try putting it on a standard IDE interface
and either autoprobe for it or feed it the proper address and IRQ,DMA info.
IBM lists a standard IDE CDROM driver as being used for that model in OS/2
so it SHOULD work under LINUX.
