remote login problem

Hi all. When I telnet to my 4.0 i386 box, from my sparc, I get the
following:
telnet gossamer
Trying 192.168.2.2...
Connected to gossamer.edison.org.
Escape character is '^]'.
Password:
and thats it. If I press return, I get 'Connection closed...'. Does
anyone have any idea what I can do? My sparc has NIS+ running on it,
could this have anything to do with it?
