bah..most machine of pentium 100+ support 384 to 512 MB ram at least. 32
is a good number, and for critical machines, i reccomend it as the minimum.

Buslogics 958 I think (Ultra wide SCSI - often mistakenly called SCSI-3)
or NCR have worked best for me.,..

bah! Skip IDE altogether. get 2 SCSI 2.1 GB Barracuda drives... just

Skip IDE hard disks, and use IDE for CD's...why not...they're cheap ;)
