Good, so the boot disk *is* working then. That point 5 is rather
important.
To keep the boot disk from starting the install you *must* type linux
root=/dev/????
at the boot: prompt.
???? must be substituted with the root partition of your linux drive.
When you installed if / is mounted on /dev/sda2 then you would put at
boot: prompt
linux root=/dev/sda2
So, it would look like
boot: linux root=/dev/sda2
If your root partition is /dev/sda2
