I have been trying to recompile my kernel for a week now without success. I have read the Kernel - HOWTO and a few threads on the list but no suggestions seem to work. I follow the steps correctly and do a make config, make dep, make clean, make modules, and make modules_install. After this I get the zImage in the ~/boot directory.
I change it's name to vmlinuz.new and move it to /boot. Next, I do add the newly compiled kernel to /etc/lilo.conf and do a /sbin/lilo to configure lilo and I restart. Upon boot up it just hangs right before the filesystem check. WHY??? Someone help me out here I swear I'm losing it! Thanks
                                                    Jason
