Unfortunately, svgalib does not seem to get along very well with the 
Trio64 chipset. The workaround I've been using ever since I first 
installed Linux is to edit the svgalib configuration file to force it to 
use standard VGA. You don't get SVGA resolutions or acceleration, but you 
don't get a messed-up screen on exit, either.

BTW, if your screen is already messed up, I've found that even "textmode" 
may not get it back. However, if you have dosemu set up, running "dos" 
(by touch, since you can't see anything) will recover your video 
settings. Seems like it runs the video BIOS which resets the bad 
registers...
