Latest benchmark report I have seen was SYMBIOS faster than Adaptec under
a not mentionned OS.

The 53c896 chip is a 2 channels board using 64 bit PCI. I donnot have the
docs. The 895 uses 32 bit address registers, so I am not sure the 896 will
work using 895 compatible drivers without any change in the code.
Anyway, x86 does not seem to ever be candidate for using 64 bit PCI. ;-)

Symbios has been bought by Adaptec for about 775 M$. ;-)

The 895 works for me using singled ended wide devices and has been
reported working with Atlas III LVD devices under Linux.
The current stock ncr53c8xx driver needs a patch for the 895 but the
latest driver version (2.6i) seems to work fine with the 895.
