----------
Dear gentlemen.
I have a machine Pentium 200 Mhz, with OS Linux (Slackwar 3.2 or RedHot 5.0), (I tried both) and a SCSI card Adapter model Adaptec AHA-2940. I need to exchange information, using 8mm tape backups.
I am trying to connect a tape backup model Exabyte 8505 or 8205. DOS and Windows 95 Operating Systems can see the driver, but Linux Does not.
However during many attempts Linux (with the AHA-2940 controller) could recognize, many SCSI devices like: an external HD and an external CD-ROM.
When I attempt to install the tape under Linux, I had the following error message: "error in parity" therefore I could not attach the tape backup unit.
I checked the Exabyte Web page and I found a document that shows how to "integrating an Exabyte tape drive into a Linux system", I followed the instructions but this didn't work either.
I also checked the Web page http://wcarchive.cdrom.com/pub/linux/slackware-3.2/docs/SCSI-HOWTO.This document shows that driver for Slackware has been loaded for working with an Exabyte tape drive, I followed the instructions but this didn't work either.
What I need to know is:
What Linux version is supports Exabyte external tape drives?
In case that Linux does not supports Exabyte tapes, what UNIX (for Intel platforms) supports Exabyte tapes?
In case the problem is the SCSI adapter, what SCSI adapter is necessary for the tape drive to be recognized?
I would highly appreciate you help on this matters.
With kind regards,
Carmen Montilla
