I replied to this mail yesterday, but I did not see it posted on the
mailing
list, thus I assume that for some reason it was not received. I'll try
again.

I'll gladly try to help you resolve this problem, althought, if it's a
driver
problem, I'm not sure that I'll be of much help.
You shouldn't have to do anything to get the drive working on Linux --
it's
just a standard SCSI sequential device. Please check the easy things
first: cable, termination, etc. I remember having _some_ problems with
my
2940UW and Red Hat 4.0, but I really don't remember what they were and
I have no idea if it could be related to your problem. Perhaps you can
give me some additional info that may help me determine where the probem
is.
What firmware revision do you have in the drive? I suspect it's 0123.
Is the drive internal or external? When the failure occurs, does the
drive appear hung, or is it accessible with a simple mt command, such
as "mt -f /dev/st* status"? You wouldn't happen to have an SCSI bus
analyzer, would you?

I have NCR 53815 controllers on my main system, but I do have an other
Pentium
150 system with a 2940UW controller, which I can test. What is the
command
sequence you sent to the drive?

Pete
