Perhaps I'm missing something here, but I find it kind of hard to
believe that it won't take more than a trivial amount of work to
get Emacs 18.59 to support Solaris 2.4.
It doesn't support it out of the box because (I believe) 2.4 didn't
exist at the time Emacs 18.59 was released.
2.4 is not colossally different from 2.3 from the point of view of
a user-level program.
This should not, of course, be interpreted as a suggestion that we
abandon or in any way derail the move of Emacs 19 to the system packs.
