Since we're on the topic of public libraries and the Internet, I've
decided to pull my Navigating the Internet workshop notes off the
shelf and give Internet workshops geared to public librarians here
in Louisiana. Next week I'll be giving the workshop to the State
Library of Louisiana.
I'd liked to hear from anyone who knows of Internet resources that
would be of particular interest to the public librarian. I'll show
them CARL, a gopher demo, gutenberg, electronic publishing and
others, but I'd like to know of any ftp sites, databases, WIASs or
other info on the Internet that would appeal to public librarians.
I think they will ask me how a public library can hook up to
the Internet and what would be the cost. How would a large,
medium, or rural library access the Internet? I have no answer.
Any information on accessing and the cost of accessing the Internet
would be appreciated.
Finally, what state government agencies are on the Internet? Department
of Education, State Libraries, or others?
I'll summarize if I receive responses.
