                   ST. THOMAS UNIVERSITY

              Director of Academic Computing

      St. Thomas University is a four year liberal arts
institution, enrolling about 1800 students.  Affiliated with the
University of New Brunswick, it is self-governing and grants its
own degrees in Arts, Education and Social Work.  It is working to
develop a computing and information technology infrastructure
which will be responsive to the needs of a university community
committed to the liberal arts, to excellence and creativity in
teaching, and to a broad definition of active scholarship.

      The Director of Academic Computing is a full time position,
reporting directly to the Vice-President (Academic).  It carries
overall responsibility for developing and co-ordinating computing
and information services.  Specifically, it entails
responsibility for the development and operation of the local
area networks and the computer lab, for participation in planning
a new computer centre in a new academic building, for liaison
with the University of New Brunswick Computing Services unit, and
for faculty and staff development in the areas of computer use,
networking, and information management.  The position carries a
particular emphasis on working with faculty on innovative
applications of information technology and networking in teaching
and scholarship.  Salary commensurate with qualifications and
experience.  Starting date negotiable up to September 1.

      The successful candidate will have a strong background both
in academia (preferably, a Master's degree or equivalent), and in
computing and information technology, and substantial full-time
experience in this or related fields.  She or he will be prepared
to be flexible and creative in working with the whole university
community in extending, developing and integrating into the
institution a computer and information services infrastructure.
