The next meeting of the Strategic Visions Discussion Group will be held on
Friday, June 26, at the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco,
at 4:30 pm, in Gateway Ballroom G. It will be followed by a no-host
reception at 6 p.m., in Gateway Ballroom F.

This meeting is open, and all who are interested in discussing the strategic
direction of librarians and librarianship for the future are urged to come and
participate in the conversation.

                 Strategic Visions Discussion Group

                            June 26, 1992

                               Agenda

The Information professional's view of the world.....Russell Shank

Impact of technology on library organizations......Don Bosseau

Models of service to achieve the vision.....Brian Nielsen

Use of the Vision and Values concepts in the creation of a library school
    curriculum.......................Anne Woodsworth

This is a discussion group, not a program. Each speaker has been
asked to present a topic briefly, leading into general discussion by
those attending. The Visions and Values statements drafted by the
Strategic Visions Steering Committee last December will be available
as handouts; the input from those participating in the discussion
group meeting will be incorporated into a revision of these statements
later this year.

In San Antonio, 225 people attended the meeting. Similar open
hearings have been held at the Medical Library Association meeting,
the ACRL meeting, and will be held at AALL, LITA, ASIS, and AASL.
The effort is to provide a wide-open forum to allow as many people
as possible to participate in this definition or redefinition of
the librarian. In responding to crises such as the closing of
library schools, a perceived lack of leadership, budgetary
problems, and other challenges facing libraries, librarians in all sectors
will need to come together to formulate their vision and strategic direction.

Following the discussion group meeting, there will be a no-host
reception to which all are invited.
