I would like to speak in defense of William Drew and his wonderful guide
to Agriculture sources on the Internet. I have passed it on to an
interested librarian from Walla Walla, Washington (best onions in the
world ... Walla Walla Sweets!) and my brother, a computer enthusiast
and farmer. The information that Mr. Drew gives to is of
immediate use to the both of them. Farmers are an isolated group
of users...and most deserving of current information. My brother's
farm is a half hour from a small town whose library collection consisted
of "popular reading" last time I looked. The business information on
futures...and weather information...is relevant to him.
Now...to get the Walla Walla Library connected to the Internet...as
well as my brother (who's got as far as Compuserve).
I also think that the concept of writing information guides
to a specific audience is timely.
I was disappointed to hear that such an effort was "flamed" for trying
to get the word out. We've all been new at this "net game", protocol
is not exactly blatant in some cases. The "end" (getting the word out)
justified the means (submitting to every pertinent listserv) in this
case.
This guide would make a good source for WAIS.
