Gettysburg College is highly selective liberal arts college located ninety
minutes from the Baltimore/Washington area.  Established in 1832, the
college has a rich history, and is located on a 220-acre campus with an
enrollment of approximately 2,200 students.

ACCESS SERVICES LIBRARIAN
MUSSELMAN LIBRARY

Gettysburg College invites applications for a service-oriented librarian to
coordinate access functions at Gettysburg College Library.  Reporting to
the Director of Library Services, the successful candidate will be
responsible for daily and long-term planning and direction for the Access
Services Department of the library that has a staff of 8 FTE and
approximately 30 student assistants.  The Access Services Librarian
coordinates access services throughout the library and provides direct
supervision to four staff members who are each responsible for one of four
section units: Circulation, Reserves/Copyright, Interlibrary Loan and Media
Services.  The Access Services Librarian will be expected to participate in
the reference desk rotation, as well as serve as a liaison to selected
academic departments.

Qualifications:  ALA accredited MLS; demonstrated academic library public
services experience; familiarity with current practices for copyright
compliance; knowledge of automated systems for access services; knowledge
of OCLC systems and microcomputers; demonstrated ability to supervise
effectively; excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.  Prefer:
Background in liberal arts; experience with Innovative Interfaces, Inc.,
automated system; experience in working with consortia and service
providers; ability to use major word processing and spreadsheet programs;
excellent problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities:  The Access Service librarian is responsible for the
management of access services including automated circulation, interlibrary
loan, document delivery, print and electronic reserves, and stacks
maintenance; determines access policies in cooperation with other library
sections; collects and analyzes statistics, prepares reports, and
formulates automation recommendations.  She/he will coordinate the
library's document delivery services, coordinate policies relating to
patrons' use of the collections, services and facilities, and guide
discussions regarding new automated initiatives for access services.

This position is a full-time, ongoing, 12-month position.  The salary is
competitive and commensurate with experience. It is complemented by a
