Children's Services Coordinator

Pay Range: $53,265-$64,624 annually

The Children's Services Coordinator is a leadership position which=20

Coordinates the effective development of Library collections and=20

Services for children throughout Seattle's diverse community.=20

JOB OVERVIEW:

The Children's Services Coordinator reports to the Director,

Central Library Services. The Coordinator:


Supervises and participates in the services provided by=20

the staff of the Children's Services Department (5.7 FTE) located

in the downtown Central Library.


Plays a key role in coordinating children's collections and=20

services throughout the Library system, including coordinating

the training and development of, and provision of services by,

the Mobile Services Unit. These branch staff perform direct=20

service to children in varying degrees and report, on a day-to-day=20

basis, to an on-site supervisor.=20


Assumes a leadership role in communicating the Library's

vision for Children's Services in a way that enlists support and=20

commitment from Library staff and community resources to help=20

the children of Seattle embark and stay on a path to lifelong learning.


This key position requires exceptional diplomacy and the ability to=20

build and maintain effective, supportive partnerships with Central=20

Library, Mobile Services and branch staff, as well as the diverse=20

community the Seattle Public Library serves. This position will also

work in close partnership with the Library's Young Adult Services

Coordinator to ensure effective outreach and service to Seattle's youth.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF THIS POSITION:

Support intellectual freedom; assume responsibility for how the Library=20

is perceived by staff and the public; and provide leadership to the=20

Library through collaborative problem-solving.


Provide leadership to ensure effective and responsive development=20

of the Library's collections and services for children; contribute to=20

the quality of children's services by advocating for and facilitating=20

communication with other Library leadership staff regarding critical=20

Issues, problems or trends affecting children's services throughout the=20

Library.


Coach, develop and guide Children's Department staff toward the highest=20

standards of customer service; supervise, schedule and evaluate staff;=20

resolve operational and public relations or other problems arising in =
the=20

daily activities of the department; participate in staff selection;=20

provide leadership, assignments and opportunities for staff that will=20

inspire and encourage them to reach for excellence, and provide=20

recognition when they achieve it.


Assume a leadership role in provision of services to children=20

throughout the system; oversee the training and development of=20

Central Library and neighborhood branch Children's Librarians;=20

establish and maintain effective and supportive relationships=20

with all related staff and supervisors; and advocate for=20

QUALIFICATIONS:

and principles in a public library setting, and experience=20
