WLN Announces Availability of MARC Records for Books on Tape

Lacey, Washington, December 22, 1997. WLN announced today that MARC
records for titles distributed by Books on Tape Inc. will be accessible in
the WLN database. Books on Tape Inc. of Newport Beach, CA, is a producer
and distributor of audio books to libraries. They maintain a database of
USMARC records for audio tapes that will now be available to WLN's users
through its Online system.

Books on Tape Inc. was established in 1975. Their catalog now contains
over 3,500 titles. It is updated with approximately 20 new titles each
month. Their aim is to make the largest selection of audio tapes in the
world available to libraries and individuals. All B-O-T items are
cataloged. The records for these audio tapes will be loaded quarterly into
the WLN database. The cataloging records for these audio tapes will be
available to WLN and its customers. The availability of this data in WLN's
Online database and through CD-ROM databases will help provide libraries
with the most current source of cataloging data for increasingly important
audio tapes.

Sharon West, Director of Library Services at WLN, said of this new
service, "This is yet another benchmark in our continued effort to expand
sources of records for the WLN database, thereby providing cataloging of
non-print materials to libraries when they need it. Combined with our
member libraries cataloging input and other sources of non-print
cataloging, the WLN database is a timely and broad source of non-print
cataloging. This can result in a significant savings to our members."

The Books on Tape records are available at no additional charge to the WLN
subscription contributing libraries. Regular pricing applies to all
others.

WLN operates a library network in the Pacific Northwest and serves many
other libraries and organizations of all types and sizes throughout North
America. WLN products and services include an online bibliographic
database, Internet services, CD-ROM catalogs, database preparation
/authority control services, automated collection analysis and
cataloging services. For additional information about WLN, please visit
