Final Announcement
The Globalization of Information in the Networking Information
Society has been taken as the main theme for this year's con-
ference. By taking this theme FID wishes to shed light on the
different aspects in our networking Society. FID is a major
catalyst in making clear that synergy between the different
information, knowledge and communication areas as well as the
public, private and academic sectors are of the utmost importance
to prosperity and peace in the future. The private individual is
also being recognized as a major force in the development of the
Information Society.
This Conference will be of interest to a very large audience.
Networks affect all levels of our Society. Information
Superhighways and the physical Infrastructure that is currently
being built affects such issues as democratization, liberty,
fraternity and equality. This not only affects the way in which we
do business and other transactions, but affects the individual all
over the world. The consequences for Information professionals
will also be tremendous. We will need to move out from our
sectoral way of thinking to a more synergistic approach. This will
also mean that we will need to transform from career planners to
career strategists in an ever changing situation.
The programme includes many themes and subjects which are the key
elements in entering the Information Society of today. Ranging
from networking and access, information superhighways and
infrastructures, knowledge-based generation, quality issues,
information science, intellectual property, lifelong learning and
distance education, integrity, the consequences on business and
industry - including SMEs, the Environment and the impact on the
information professional are all taken up in this programme.
The conference is of great interest to a wide audience of
information professionals from all sectors of the information,
knowledge and communication area as well as information users from
all sectors of Society.
