For an article that will appear in the Encyclopaedia Britannica Book of
the Year, I am seeking information about newsworthy events in libraries
around the world (except the U.S. and Canada) during the calendar year
1996.
The audience for the EB Book of the Year is a general one, and newsworthy
might be defined as any library story that was covered by newspapers or
other mass market news media. Unfortunately, natural and manmade
disasters--fires, floods, quakes, crimes, war damage, large-scale funding
cutbacks, etc.--are likely topics. So, too, however, are openings of
large new libraries, unique new programs, or striking technological
innovations.
If you know of a story that merits inclusion, please email, call, or
write to me. Photocopies of pertinent news stories will be especially
appreciated! Rapid responses will also be deeply appreciated because my
October deadline for completion is unyielding. I also hope this mitigates
the cross posting. I need to act quickly and cast the widest net
possible.
