I just found a bug in the "Guest" pagckage that gives you a shortcut to
toggle between guest and non-guest modes... DO NOT TRY DUPLICATING THIS
PROBLEM BEFORE YOU'VE BACKED UP!
Set your newt to guest mode with the "Guest" tool. Now try to unset guest
mode with the "Handwriting Styles" preference. Boing. (Sorry, I forgot to
write down the error numbers.) Note that the "Handwriting Styles" guest
check box is now empty but the label on the preference is still "Guest
Handwriting Styles". Now close up the prefs and the extras. Go back to
extras. Go back to prefs. Try going back to handwriting styles. Boing.
Now the fun part. Try resetting.
At this point my newt ended up cycling through the reset splash screen
(apple's copyright, etc) with a strange warbling reset sound (not the usual,
by far), then a blank screen, then some quick flash patches of black, then
the splash screen with warble, and so on. I finally killed the whole thing
with the reset/awake in tandem method of erasing all data from the newt
(sinful of apple not to document this oh-so-very-useful feature). Of course,
I had to restore from a backup, hence the warning at the beginning!
Now all is well except that I have removed the "ToggleGuest.pkg" before
noting who the author was so that I can send him this bug report. Could
someone who still has the tool installed check the bottom of it's window and
forward this message? Thanks.
This was the most useful tool yet, so I hope we see an update soon!
