Restoring Time

I just noticed something new about resetting and the clock. I had to reset  
and erase all data (see my previous post) and then restore from a flashcard.  
As has been noted before, the time was reset to the time of the backup. But  
the _date_ was not reset! I kind of like the fact that restoring would force  
you to realize time had passed and you might have lost something in the  
interim... but why does a backup not save the date?
