TACOMA, Wash -- Those of you who think the Roman Catholic Church lacks
a sense of humor: Meet John McCoy.
The spokesman for the Seattle Archdiocese not only takes a joke well,
he delivers a few humorous one-liners, too.
Last week's phony Internet news story, which announced that Microsoft
would buy the Catholic Church, prompted a sober response from the
Redmond, Wash., software company, which denied the story and apologized
to anyone who might have been offended
Not McCoy.
"Offended?" he asked. "We thought our prayers had finally been
answered."
McCoy's Christmas musings included a few reasons a Microsoft takeover
of the church would have been mutually beneficial:
* Images: "We've had 2,000 years of working with icons," McCoy said.
"Microsoft Windows has only done it for three. We could have helped."
* Spiritual advice: "We could have introduced Father On-line. No wait,
no hours, no congestion in the church parking lot."
* Fashion: "I hear there's not much attention to dress at Microsoft.
We've got a clothing line that draws a crowd and dates back two
millenia."
