Late this afternoon I was up in the northern reaches of campus, taking digital pictures of some of our projects & other stuff. As I was walking back to the Yard down Kirkland St, near the intersection of Quincy St. an older woman walking towards me stops me to ask a question. I'm used to this by now, though the fact that I was walking along with a camera on my shoulder should have suggested that I was from somewhere other than Harvard....but anyway she decided that I was the one to ask.
She starts...."can you tell me how to get to, umm.......to the...."
[and then she unfolded a piece of paper that looked, from my perspective, like a printout of an email, and read aloud her destination]
"...Harvard Faculty Club web site??"
I stared at her for a split second in disbelief, thinking "This must be a trick question." But no, she was serious.
So I did the only thing I could do....I proceeded to direct her down Quincy St. to the non-virtual Faculty Club, where by now I'm sure they, too, have a really funny story circulating.
