Things didn't work nicely again... The 3c59x driver was used and on the initialization of the services there were hangs. Epecially things related to AFS, etc. didn't work at all. After booting in single user mode I had to manually change the /etc/conf.modules and change the alias of eth0 from 3c59x to 3c90x... After rebooting everything works fine... I'm not sure if this can be a problem for other people with the same network card and can be somehow fixed. Thanks once more for all your help, Dimitris
