Any purge should _NOT_ be done before IAP.  We have had explicit
requests from a number of users who are working on theses/final projects/etc,
and haven't had time or a reason to upgrade.  Unless there's a crunch for
space, we should keep a.out binaries around (unsupported) for
as long as possible.  That doesn't mean we have to build any more....
