McVegan gets McDonald's Nod
Vegan Action, a Berkeley-based student-driven nonprofit vegetarian
organization today received word that McDonald's has withdrawn from their
threatened McVegan T-Shirt lawsuit.
McDonald's, last October, demanded that Vegan Action "immediately cease
manufacturing and sale" of their popular McVegan T-Shirt design under
trademark infringement law.
A news conference and victory party is planned for noon, January 17th at
the Grand Opening of Smart Alec's Healthy Fast Food Restaurant, 2355
Telegraph Ave. (corner Durant), Berkeley. Reggie McVeggie, Vegan
Action's popular mascot, will be present serving complimentary healthy
veggie burgers.
Vegan Action Coordinator, Leor Jacobi, expressed relief that "Now that
this nonsense from McDonald's is over we can continue with our vital
mission enhancing public awareness about the many benefits of a vegan
diet. This is a victory for everyone concerned with the public health."
A vegan (pronounced VEE-gn) diet is a vegetarian diet free of all animal
products, such as meat, dairy, and eggs. Vegans are typically motivated
by health and ethical concerns.
