The kernel oops happened to me again a few minutes ago, so I believe the
ssh problem is unrelated. Unfortunately, another window was covering the
top window, so I was unable again to see what was causing the load to
spike.
Interestingly, I was still able to kill X with Ctrl-Alt-Backspace, and I
was also able to freely switch between the ttys. However, if I attmept to
log in as root at a tty, I am prompted for my password, and when I provide
it, nothing more happens. If I try to log in as me, I am not prompted for
my password, and nothing more happens.
