I'm used to having my new windows pop up in the biggest empty space on
the screen not on top of the window I am using.
This is a settable parameter in Sawfish, "First fit" I think.
I could find no such parameter in the GNOME online help nor in the GNOME
control center. It would be really disappointing to discover that the
world adopted a newer window manager that forgot how to do a diverse set
of default positionings.
