The workspace switcher panel applet has a control that enables you to
set the number of workspaces. That number is reset to 1 after a logout.
So you have to set the number of workspaces in sawfish.
Unfortunately, setting the number of workspaces in sawfish is now really
rather non-intuitive because of the following non-idealities.
1. Because the Sawfish Configurator allows sub-tabs, you have to already
have clued in on the fact that the arrow keys in the upper right are
required before you see all the tabs you can manipulate. I was used to
the multiple lines of tabs and so I missed the "Workspaces" tab the
first 4 times I looked for it.
2. Once you get to the Workspaces tab, the nice graphical interface
allowing you to set count and orientation is gone. Unlike the workspaces
applet, there is no count of workspaces you can set. You just have to
make the intuitive leap that if you use the "Add..." key by adding to
the list of workspace names, you actually create workspaces. I think
this would have been much more obvious to me if the list was called
"Workspaces" and the one pre-existing workspace was already filled in
with "No Name" or something.
3. When you set the names, there is no accelerator on the <Enter> key.
You have to click on OK. I was REALLY surprised to experience this
ancient ancient ancient inconvenience on such a new rewrite of the
configurator interface.
