I don't think that will ever have happened by default, and that would be
really useful, because the XFree86 3 servers are gone from the Redhat 9.0
and Athena 9.2 releases.

Possibly simply because the V3 config files are huge in comparison.

Note that, since the version 3 servers have been deprecated, the "official"
V4 config file is once again XF86Config, but if there's an XF86Config-4
file present, it will get used by default.
Presumably, native 9.2 installs will only get an XF86Config file in
version 4 format. It seems reasonable to leave preexisting installs
so long as they're working.
