This is misleading since (as Abby suggested) it's really the Mesa library
/mit/geomview_v1.8.0/arch/i386_linux22/lib/libGL.so.1.2.030400 that's looking
for it. It turns out that there is a compilation option that avoids using
this if it's not present, as it seems not to be in RedHat 7.1- so in
principle I can get rid of this by recompiling.
But there is a larger issue here- now (as in Athena 8.4), the
release-supplied OpenGL library (/usr/lib/libGL.so.1.2.030401 in 9.0)
is broken for us, which is the reason I built it from source in 8.4
and put it in the locker. Every application I try that uses it
segfaults. I don't know why but the libGL.so.1.2.030400 version I
built from source worked fine- I'm trying to do the same now for
libGL.so.1.2.030401 but have run into some build glitches that I think
I can fix. When I do, I'd suggest packaging it (and a few related
libs/links) into a new rpm, to replace the one that doesn't work
(Mesa-3.4-13)- I don't see any reason to keep a broken one around. One
potential caveat- the build probably autodetects the graphics card in
my machine (Optiplex GX1)- I'm hoping that the ones on our other Linux
Athena machines will be compatible- if not, we may have it working on
some machines but not others.
