xss module moire spews

When I don't have tokens, xss spews:
moire: XShmAttach failed!
(actually, the messages seem to start about ten minutes after I destroy
my tokens - I'm assuming that's because xss restarts the module it is
running every ten minutes)
I set moire to be the only module called by xss in my .xscreensaver, to
test. If I add -no-shm to moire's invocation in my .xscreensaver, the
problem goes away. I assume that XShm is trying to cache something
somewhere stupid, but I haven't figured out how to fix it for real.
