irix 6.5 more tty modes problem

if you type a key quickly after "more" finishes displaying a screen,
then instead of acting on it, it will just print that key, and any
other keys you type, until you hit return. Then it will act on all of
the keys at once (including the return), but once you're in this mode,
you're stuck in it until you exit more.
I can demonstrate this for people if you can't reproduce it yourself.
The timing has to be just right.
