Doesn't seem too likely.  xlogin should only display that error
message if al_acct_create() yields a WXTMPDIR warning, and libal only
yields that warning if record->old_homedir is true.  But your session
record doesn't reflect that.

If you can reproduce the problem, it shouldn't be too difficult to
debug (we'd start by replacing xlogin with the unstripped version, of
course, and then attach it from a remote root login before entering
the username and password).
