Do all such meta-combinations fail, or just that one? (I can't easily
check from Florida. :)
There's *eightBitInput that affects that in xterm's default resource
file but it looks like that should be fine. But we are running a new
version of xterm; you might try running the xterm from the 7.6 packs
and see if that helps... The shell should be the same, but you could
try running the 7.6 version of that too if changing xterm doesn't help...
